Brazil and Argentina share the great Iguassu Falls, with an estimated 275 waterfalls spread over an area of 3km, some over 80m (262.4 ft) in height. The extensive and exuberant subtropical rainforest reserve that makes up the national park, declared a natural World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986, shelters abundant bio-diversity including hundreds of species of plants and wildlife.
Day 1-2-3 Iguassu Falls
Our budget trips are perfect for those that are touring Brazil and want to meet new people by staying in a dorm room in a hostel. Arrive in Foz do Iguaçú at any time. You will be met either at the bus station or at the airport to be taken to your hostel in Brazil. If time allows, you have the chance to pop over to Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, for some quick shopping. Many Brazilians visit Ciudad del Este each day as it is known for its low prices, especially for electronic products.
You will visit the Argentine side of the falls on your second day. Enjoy a walk above a raging river and experience the thunderous Devil's Throat, the biggest of the falls in the national park. Go for an optional and exciting jet boat trip right to the base of one of the falls, walk along the lower and upper circuits and enjoy the beautiful nature around you. If you are lucky, you may spot some wildlife.
Visit the Brazilian side on your third day (not included). You can take the local bus to go to the national park in Brazil, do a helicopter flight and visit the famous Bird Park. You may also want to visit the bi-national Itaipú Hydroelectric Power Dam, responsible for 95% of the electricity consumed in Paraguay and 28% of the Brazilian consumption.
