Day 4 Departure Day

Salvador is known as Brazil's capital of happiness due to its easygoing inhabitants and countless popular outdoor parties, including its street carnival. Salvador is noted for its cuisine, music and architecture, and its metropolitan area is the wealthiest in the Northeastern region of the country.

Salvador was the first capital of Brazil and remained so until 1763, when it was succeeded by Rio de Janeiro and then Brasília in 1960. Salvador is the 3rd most populous city In Brazil, after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Over 80% of the population is in part descended from Black African slaves, who were mainly Yoruba speakers from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo and Benin. The African influence in many of the cultural aspects of the city makes it the center of Afro- Brazilian culture. Salvador's historical and cultural aspects were inherited by the miscegenation of ethnic groups such as Native-Indians, Africans, and Europeans. This mixture is seen in the religion, cuisine, cultural manifestations and customs of Bahia's people.

The historical centre of Salvador, the “Pelourinho” or simply “Pelô”, is renowned for its Portuguese colonial architecture with historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

INDEPENDENT TOURS run all year round and are guaranteed to depart* with a minimum of 1 traveller. You choose a tour or destination, the best date to start and travel independently, without the presence of a Tour Leader. All you'll have to do is simply arrive and enjoy your stay in Brazil. We'll take care of the organizational part for you (accommodation, transportation and activities included as specified in the tour description).

Independent Tours are ideal for single travellers, couples, honeymooners, and friends that travel in small groups (up to 4 people). They are also a great alternative for those of you who are not able to join a Group Tour departure because the dates don't match with your vacation time or for those of you that wish to extend your holiday in Brazil with a few more destinations.
